About the Artist
Javier is a Mexican American who grew up in Acapulco, Mexico. He has always had a love for nature and trees. He often mentions how his mother talks to her plants whenever she waters them, and now he finds himself doing the same thing!
After years in the financial industry, Javier discovered bonsai as a hobby and as a way to wind down from his MMA training. He took his first bonsai class and obtained his first tree about six years ago. Ever since then, this ancient art form became his way of life.
For the last four years, Javier has studied bonsai under Erik Wigert from Wigert’s Bonsai in North Ft. Myers, Florida . In addition, he has participated in a multitude of workshops with several well-known bonsai artists, such as Robert Steven from Indonesia and Marc Noelanders from Belgium. More recently, Javier attended two intensive ten-day workshops with world renowned bonsai artist, Nacho Marin, at his schools in Mexico and Brazil.
Javier loves collecting trees from all over Florida and even has traveled to Puerto Rico to collect unique, tropical trees. 😏
